Teacher Bio
Alex Diaz grew up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he toured and sang with the Alabama Choir School in places like the White House, Disney World, etc. He then spent four years at the Alabama School of Fine Arts as a voice major, continuing on to study Vocal Performance, Music Composition, and Japanese Language at Bennington College in Vermont. At Bennington he was involved in several operas, musicals, and staged song cycles.
After spending a year teaching piano and voice privately in Seattle, he worked for six years for the Alabama Choir School as their Assistant Conductor, Composer-in-Residence, and Administrator. In addition to teaching and conducting the three K-5 choirs, he was also the choral instructor for the Sisterhood of Tuscaloosa Chinese School.
Alex has also spent a month every summer since 2013 in Vermont teaching as a faculty member at Summer Sonatina, a sleep-away piano camp. The camp is housed in the owner’s estate, which has 35 pianos stuffed in just about every room of the house!
Since settling in the DC area in 2022 he has been performing as a singer at various churches in DC proper, and as a pianist for theatre groups all over the DMV. He also composes for various instrumental and vocal ensembles. His passion is still teaching, and he is eager to have you join his new studio in Manassas, VA.
